ALI nakhjavani at a critical time in MAURITIUS
Ali Nakjavani visited Mauritius at a critical time in November 1960 when stirrings of potentials Covenant -Breaking had reached a climax after the defection of Mason Remey and his followers, including the former beloved pioneers to Mauritius, Drs Leland and Opal Jensen, were trying to won the believers to their camp. Mr Nakhjavani had stopped off a few days earlier in Madagascar to consult with Auxiliary Board Member Gilbert Robert about the situation in the islands , and together they referred to the many books Ali had brought with him to select the most selective quotations and translate them into french.
While in Mauritius Mr Nakhjavani visited every community on the island , consulted with many individuals about their doubts and problems, gave several talks on the covenant at the Bahain Centres , and by the time he left 5 days later every individual has had the benefits of his wisdom. After a massive farewell the entire community was left inspired and inoculated against the poison of the covenant-breaking and impressed with the importance of cutting off all correspondence and other ties with Remey and his cohorts , He stressed that they should always be grateful to the Jensen for the gift of the faith that they had brought to them, but further contact with them would be dangerous and was forbidden in the spirit of the Covenant . Mr Nakhjavani was kept busy in Mauritius to the extent of attending an Area Teaching Committee meeting at 5 o’clock in the morning. His visits remain a very memorable events in the lives of many believers in Mauritius.
From Mauritius Mr Nakhjavani proceeded to Reunion where similar conditions prevailed , so he repeated his explanations and exhortations to the believers there , then proceeded to Madagascar before returning to His duties in Kampala .
After Mr Nakjahvani left Mauritius on 5th November , Nazeer Doomun and Roddy Lutchmaya collaborated upon a tribute they sent to the National Assembly on behalf of the Area Teaching Commttee; ‘For those who were disturbed by Mr Remey’s proclamation and its subsequent repercussions on the progress of the Faith, Ali deftly dealt the blow that was to cast out for good any misgivings that might have assailed them. Methodically and with clarity he went into the Will and Testament of Abdu'l-Baha disingrating to naught the presumptions claims of that one Hand of the Cause who now so mistakenly calls himself the second Guardians of the Bahai Faith…
Friends of the Faith, Bahai and non Bahais, have had lots of opportunities of meeting Mr Ali, discussing their own personal problems with Him.
In these few days we probably had a glimpse of what the Power of the Covenant was and of what the Baha'i World would be ..beautiful, blissful spiritual and so unselfish !
Dear Ali, we thank you for giving us the opportunity of enjoying in your company unforgettable moments. May God surround you in the heavenly abode with light and all the blessing ..you are a blessed soul and will live in the hearts of all the Mauritians part of the bahais story in Mauritius ..
